The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) AU: this Klaus is from the timeline Five first landed in. He's killed with Luther, Diego, and Allison, but is revived by God to raise Five in the apocalypse. He ends up permanently dead about 5-7 years before Five gets picked up by the Commission.
nothing at all with spiders, please! parasites/eggs under skin in detail are very bad but okay if it's kind of just glossed over. feel free to HMU if you're unsure about anything!
his main outfit (as of arriving) though he does mix and match elements of all three starter looks
the inner layers are his own color of dark purple and the outer sweater in LiliS green. > the sweater is more like this sort of knit, and is shredded/distressed.
also, when he's in the dorm he's probably barefoot, though he does put on boots to go outside. most of the time.
When the Hargreeves siblings were thirteen, Number Five, teleporter, decides that he's ready to try time travel. Ignoring their father's warnings, he runs out the door and jumps through multiple seasons--until he suddenly finds himself in an apocalyptic wasteland. He goes back to the Hargreeves mansion, and is horrified to find the dead bodies of his (adult!) siblings. Unfortunately, traveling forward in time was easier than going back, and Five finds himself stuck.
He's resigned himself to living alone in the post-apocalyptic world when Klaus's corpse suddenly coughs, groans, and sits up. Klaus had been kicked out of the afterlife.
Cue a fun (no) time with Klaus Hargreeves trying his best to raise his thirteen year old brother in the apocalypse. Klaus spent a good third of his life living on the streets, he has a good idea of how to survive and how to prioritize--he made sure they found shelter, started rationing almost immediately, collected as much water and food as they can, knew roughly how long things are good for after the expiration date, etc.
He ends up eventually dying permanently because the Commission (an organization that makes sure the timeline happens the way it's supposed to) was like "why the fuck is Five actually kind of dealing with the apocalypse relatively well??" and decided to off Klaus. But because they still want/need to hire Five, they can't just shoot Klaus, so they poison him in a way that looks like food poisoning or illness. This time, despite Klaus being like wait what THAT'S NOT FAIR SEND ME BACK, God was like okay, I guess that you've made sure your baby brother actually survived to be plucked out of the wasteland to be a time-traveling assassin and made him stay dead.
Though it isn't stated exactly how or when, Klaus realized relatively young that he could dull the sounds and sights of the ghosts through drink and drugs, which is a slippery slope he dove headfirst down. He's shown stealthily rolling a joint under the table the day Five disappears, which is when they were thirteen, and by 2019, the other siblings automatically assume he's drunk or high at any given time. He's the family disappointment, the useless junkie that the others are ashamed to associate with.
None of that stops Klaus from living his hedonistic life as large as he can. He's bright and cheerful, loves having fun, and prefers to gloss over the trauma of his past and childhood with jokes and sarcasm.
He also cares so goddamn much for his siblings, which is particularly true in this AU. Five disappeared when they were thirteen, assumed dead, so seeing him again after seventeen years would be a serious shock to the system. However, once he gets over that, he'll get his shit together relatively quickly since… Smol thirteen year old baby brother. Gotta protecc, even if there's really nothing but the elements to protect him from. His priorities shift immediately to have "make sure Five survives" at the very top.
Five also got his sex education, far too much in depth, from Klaus just kind of reminscing about his various escapades because Klaus is very casual and shameless about his body and what he's done, and doesn't really see or recognize problems as problems. Klaus feels very strongly, but he doesn't really understand romantic love. He's never experienced it, and doesn't really think he ever will; his longest relationship is a three-week escapade that stems from being tired of looking for a place to sleep.
Of all the siblings, he's the one most willing to want to communicate and talk things out when a conflict arises, and the one most willing to give the others the benefit of the doubt. However, due to a combination of growing up in a competitive household and having to fend for himself on the streets, he also prioritizes self-preservation and instant gratification.
The biggest difference between Klaus-in-canon and Klaus-in-this-AU is that he swings more dramatically between "responsible dad-figure" and "actual child" in terms of how he responds and reacts to things. Canonically, he never had to be responsible for anyone but himself, and he's not very good about taking care of himself because he just didn't care. In the AU, he had to take care of Five, even if he was careful to make it not seem that way (Five's a proud, condescending little demon child even at thirteen and then it probably got worse as he got into his late teens) and that made him have to mature and grow up.
