I think it is less awkward. Were you in their position, I'm sure you wouldn't turn anyone away.

If I was in their position I probably wouldn't know my abilities well enough to do anything with them!

Do you need a tutor? I could attempt it.

With abilities? That sounds like making an effort, though.
